Metsä Tissue: A trusted partner brings structure and technical expertise to reporting

At Metsä Tissue, reporting had long been developed by a small in-house team. To ensure continuity and strengthen the development work, the company sought a partner that could bring structure and systematic practices. Greenstep’s experts responded quickly to the need and brought much-needed clarity to the work. With the support of Greenstep’s interim specialists, reporting has been developed in an agile and professional way.

“Greenstep’s experts have supported our internal development team especially in areas where we have lacked resources. We have a clear vision and understanding of the type of reporting we want to build, but in terms of technical implementation — particularly in handling large volumes of data — Greenstep’s expertise has been extremely valuable. With their help, we have been able to build more efficient and optimized reports,” says Terhi Ilvonen, CFO of Metsä Tissue.

A governance model established clear rules for reporting

Today, two interim analysts from Greenstep work with Metsä Tissue. According to Ilvonen, the most important outcome of the collaboration has been putting reporting development on the right track with clearly defined focus areas. To support this, a regular meeting every two weeks was introduced to review progress and set priorities.

“Different processes have different reporting needs: in finance, data is usually reviewed monthly, while in production, sales, and supply chain, the need is weekly or even daily. We decided to involve process owners from all main functions and create a clear framework for which reports are used, how access rights are managed, and how development work is prioritized. We also wanted a shared platform for reporting guidelines and training materials. With Greenstep’s support, we were able to make this happen,” Ilvonen explains.

Solution-oriented consultants ensured a smooth start

Ilvonen notes that in a large organization, setting up devices and access rights for external consultants can take time. Greenstep’s interim experts acted quickly and proactively, ensuring a smooth start to the collaboration.

“I give credit to Greenstep for how fast they adapted to our ways of working. They proactively coordinated with our IT department and got up to speed seamlessly. Internally, we had one person coordinating the project, and to this day, two Greenstep analysts continue to work closely with our own team,” Ilvonen describes.

Towards more agile data-driven management

Ilvonen believes that data-driven management will become even more important in the future, with AI solutions offering new opportunities to refine and use data effectively.

“We still have a lot of reports, but with Greenstep’s support we’ve been able to consolidate them and tailor views by user group. Our goal is to make data from different systems easily and flexibly available for diverse needs — and ultimately to generate real business value,” Ilvonen concludes.
